Polishing your aluminum trailer is a key part of your model’s maintenance and care. Without a regular polish, your aluminum trailer may begin to oxidize and could even begin to rust or corrode if you’re not careful. To learn how to successfully polish your aluminum trailer and keep your model in tip-top shape, check out our helpful guide below.

Wash Your Trailer

Before you can polish your aluminum trailer, you’ll first need to remove any dirt, dust, or debris clinging to the surface. Using a gentle dish soap—or an automotive soap if your aluminum trailer is painted— give your model a thorough scrub both inside and out.

Polish Your Trailer

Now that your aluminum trailer is spotless, you’ll want to gather several rags and your preferred polish and set to work on your model. For polish, we recommend purchasing a paste, foam, or spray-on option, and using a few old rags to apply it to your trailer. When polishing your trailer, be sure to work in sections to ensure you don’t accidentally miss a spot.

Waxing Your Trailer

Once you’ve applied polish to the entirety of your trailer, you’re welcome to put your tools away and be done for the day. However, waxing your aluminum trailer after you polish it can do a lot to prevent oxidation and the appearance of rust on your model. If you’re planning to wax your aluminum trailer, we recommend using a paste wax and more old rags to do so. Once again, be sure to work in sections, and apply the wax in the same direction all the way around the model.
