While trailers are pretty durable pieces of equipment, to ensure your model has a long and happy service life, you’ll want to be sure to complete a number of different maintenance tasks regularly throughout the year. Thankfully, trailer maintenance is fairly simple and straightforward, and you’ll have no trouble mastering even the hardest maintenance jobs in no time at all! For tips on how to keep up with your model’s various upkeep and care throughout the year, check out our article below.
Check Your Tires
Regularly checking your trailer’s tires is an important part of its overall care and maintenance. That’s why, every three months or so, we recommend checking both the air pressure and tread of each one of your tires. If you notice your tread has worn down below 2/32 of an inch, or the rubber has begun to crack along the sidewall, you’ll want to have your tires replaced ASAP.
Clean Your Trailer
Trailers tend to accumulate an impressive layer of gunk and grime very quickly. Unfortunately, if this muck is allowed to sit for too long, your trailer could develop a serious coat of rust that could eventually lead to corrosion and even a pricey repair bill. Thankfully, corrosion is pretty easy to keep at bay! Simply sweep and rinse your trailer after every other use, and remember to give it a good wash every 6 months or so.
Grease Your Hitch
Greasing your hitch is a fairly easy maintenance task that will do wonders for the overall health of your equipment! All you need to do is apply a generous amount of lubricant every 4 to 6 months to ensure rust, corrosion, and heat build-up don’t damage your trailer’s hitch.
