With the right upgrades, you can make the most of your utility trailer’s full potential and make your work more efficient. However, there are so many aftermarket parts out there that it can be difficult to know which upgrades are worth buying and which ones best suit your specific needs. That’s why we’ve rounded up the following list of essential utility trailer upgrades below. Read on to learn more!
1. A Spare Tire
There’s a reason your tow vehicle comes with a spare tire. You never know when you’re going to get a flat and it’s helpful to have an extra tire with you on the road just in case. Some utility trailers already come with a spare tire. If your trailer did not, then you will want to buy one. If you end up getting a flat on your trip, you will be able to easily replace it.
2. Better Lights
Trailers usually come with basic lights, such as brake lights, but some models may be missing key lights, so you’ll want to add them. Lights play a crucial role in making your utility trailer visible to other motorists so they can easily see the entire length of your tow vehicle and trailer. You can also upgrade your current lights to LED lights. These are initially more expensive, but they will last much longer and save you money on replacement bulbs down the road. They also burn brighter and use less energy.
3. A Document Tube
Sometimes, traveling with a trailer requires bringing along the proper documents. These can include business documents, maintenance records, and the trailer’s registration. These documents can be hard to organize and prevent them from flying away. A document tube offers a great way to securely store all these important papers. Roll up your documents and place them in the document tube.
4. D-Rings/Tie-Downs
Odds are that you’ll need a way to keep your cargo secure during transportation. If your utility trailer does not currently offer D-rings or tie-down mechanisms, you’ll want to have them installed. Also, get durable ratchet straps so that you can fully take advantage of these rings.
5. Shelving Units
Your utility trailer is a great place to store and transport a host of items, such as your tools. These items may not take up much space, but they can be difficult to keep track of and keep organized. By installing shelving units, you can easily organize all these various odds and ends.
