The best way to avoid serious maintenance issues with your car trailer is to clean it regularly! Not only will this keep important parts and components from rusting or gumming up, but it should also help you avoid corrosion or oxidation on your trailer. To learn how to properly clean an aluminum car trailer, and how often your equipment needs to be washed, take a look at our guide below.
Cleaning Your Aluminum Car Trailers
Cars aren’t exactly messy cargo, and likely won’t leave your aluminum car trailer caked in dirt or mud. However, that doesn’t mean your trailer doesn’t need to be cleaned regularly. To avoid rust and various mechanical issues, we recommend cleaning your aluminum car trailer at least every six months. Thankfully, this is a relatively simple process and only requires some dish soap, a hose, and a scrub brush to complete. If your aluminum trailer happens to be painted, we encourage you to use car soap rather than dish soap to help protect and restore your paint job.
Treating Oxidation
While aluminum trailers are resistant to corrosion, oxidation is still a prevalent issue— and one you want to avoid as best you can. Thankfully, polishing your trailer after you’ve washed and dried it is an effective defense against aluminum oxidation, and we recommend purchasing a spray or foam polish to get the job done. However, if you do notice a bit of oxidation on your car trailer, there’s no need to panic. Go to your nearest truck-washing service center to have your trailer treated with an acid bath and watch the oxidation disappear!
